Maggie Groat
Other Visions & Tools for Alternatives

September 12–October 6, 2013

In her first solo show at Erin Stump Projects, titled Other Visions & Tools for Alternatives, Maggie Groat reconfigures found materials, including fence boards, decommissioned press photos, and other quotidian fragments, to assemble collages and sculptural tools that enable moments of envisioning.  Anchoring the show is Fences will turn into tables, an ambitious sculpture which draws attention to the lasting legacies of Western ceremonies of possession through transforming used fence boards into a communal table. Surrounding works, serve as the documents of on-going research into the interdisciplinary potential of artistic intervention and envisioning; the studies for possible futures.

The artist wishes to gratefully acknowledge the support of the Ontario Arts Council.
